Yesterday on my way home from school, an idea for a stand-alone novel hit me hard. The premise dropped into my mind with almost perfect clarity, and I fine-tuned it on my way home, at which point I ran to the keyboard to get it all down before I forgot any of it. It was very exciting. You know how it is--you can't type fast enough, and more possibilities come to you with every word. What grand fun!
Now it's sitting at the back of my head, simmering. I have a few scene snatches. I know what the main characters look like and their basic personalities. I have a plot. I have settings. I don't have a name for my antagonist yet--he's remaining stubborn about that--but it'll come.
Interestingly enough, this book would probably be
marketable more as magic realism than fantasy, which is mega-cool. Wider
audience and all that. (And yes, I maintain that the difference between
magical realism and fantasy is the marketing department, but I can only do
so much to change the
publishing industry.)

I've decided the difference between magic realism and fantasy is that in fantasy the magic is central to the plot, and the story could not happen without it. In magic realism, the magic seems to be optional, sort of tangential to what's really going on. By that definition, I can't see you writing magic realism, but that's only my personal opinion, not an official literary definition or anything.

I found the video wonderfull. It is ralley difficult to get in to details about it, because there is just soo much. I'll try anyways )so my experience of the video:The realisation of how we live in different worlds, and how we each have to make our own world beautiful, ressonated deep within me. I felt the truth of it. I also am looking forward to the challenge of being non judgemental, to release myself of all the negativity I subconsciously surround myself with. I ralley loved the little who am I screen that popped up, it was sort of a pay attention -this is important!! wake up call for the mind. Sometimes it is just too easy to be mellow while wathcing videos on the internett -especially if you do it a lot.I actually watched it twice, and it's quite possible that I will watch it a couple of times more.. there was just something.. While watching the video I felt like I was at the verge of remembering something lost.. -you know like the lyrics to a favorite song, but it just kept slipping away. Weird. But in a good way!I'm sure I will remember it when I am ready.Other than that, the video felt like a personal conversation -almost as if I were right there among the chicken and the goats! The only ting left to comment, I think, is the entering experience and WOW this is suuuuch a BEAUTIFUL site. I ralley truly mean that! The colouring, the calligraphy and the position of the photos -how they compliment the background. Well, you can consider that noticed and appreciated. This turned out to be some comment, but hey -you asked for it, so I could hardly leave with out. A simple wonderfull just seemed lazy /Harriet
